What have I done :-S ????

Post by rsawatson »

I disconnected the battery terminal and then the starter motor earlier this morning, planning to remove the motor and clean the assembly as it sometimes does not engage with the fly wheel.

I then had to go out urgently so abandoned my session and reveresed everything I had done by that stage.

So, after refixing on the lead for the starter motor and reconnecting the battery, I went to start the car... and I got NOTHING - it won't even turn! I started the car with the handle and it was fine.

What on earth have I missed? What could have happened?

Could the battery or starter motor terminals be dirty? Take the cables off again and wire brush them up bright. Have you knocked one of the small wires off the starter solenoid? Try pressing the rubber button on the solenoid if it has one and see if the motor spins over. There cant be much wrong.

If still no luck, remove the starter, lay it on the floor and connect jump leads from the battery to the starter body and terminal. Hold the starter with your foot when you connect it. It should spin freely

THANK YOU! I must have knocked one of the solenoid wires off by accident - as I certainly didn't touch them on purpose! Cheers - now I'll get back to what I was doing...
