Sound deadening

Post by RogerRust »

I have been putting sound deadening in the MGBGT.

I used 4 square metres or mat, covering the footwells, bulkhead (double layer on the bulkhead) all of the floor, under the back seat and the spare wheel well.

The difference is marked I was amazed how high I had the radio set when I turned it on it was much too loud. And the road noise and rattles are greatly improved. I might put some more sound proofing space layer on later, but for now it'll do.

Three meters would have done one layer but I wanted to double up on the bulkhaed and in the boot.

The cd player sounds a million times better now.

It took me a full day to do from start to finish.

I did think of leaving the carpets out and driving round in what looked like the inside a space capsule.

Sound deadening is not cheap stuff, especially when most places seem to sell it in two foot squares, I'm sure there must be somewhere that you can buy it on a roll though.

I've been intending on doing this to my minor before I put the carpets down, however whether it happens or not depends on whether I can find any of the stuff for reasonable money.

Nice job. I would like to do the same to my GT if only I could stop the windscreen leaking. Every BGT Ive had has suffered from this!
