Aye, its a buyers market and although i don't hold out for originallity myself I still think there is a limit to the price for a car modified as this is - even if it is for the better - An original car will always be worth more money I feel.....

Just my 2 penneth:

I used a modified Minor (1380cc - bored out 1275) with a 5 speed gearbox and disc brakes as my daily car for about 3 or 4 years (250 miles per week) and it was fine and was generally faster than the 'averge' modern traffic.

I also (later on) used a bog standard 1098 Minor with standard gearbox and drum brakes for 4 years (doing 250 miles per week) and I have to say that I PERSONALLY prefer driving the standard car.

I do sometimes use the modified car to go to work in but 90% of the time it's the standard car.

The 1098 has less than half the power of the 1380 and the brakes are not as efficient but I enjoy driving the standard one more. :D

To me, it just 'feels' nicer and more enjoyable.

Cam- thanks for your views from both sides. It's beginning to look like a modified set up is probably not worth the extra expense. A minor with the original set-up will probably hold its value better as you know exactly what parts are used rather than a mix of MG, Ford &/or other parts. Ok if you are the person that put it all together.

As I said, I wondered what the differences were as the modification seems to be a popular theme in Minors being used for everyday use.

For my first venture onto the Messageboard, can I thank everyone for their input. This is much more interesting than my daughters' Facebook Reunited thing!

Now - has anyone looking to part with a decent late model Traveller - preferrably maroon?

That's interesting Cam, similar mileage to me and mine's a standard car also.

I've got a bit fed up recently because I've been doing at least 1, sometimes 2 motorway journeys each week of about 200 miles each, and I think that's where the standard car is a little lacking. Round the lanes, in town and short motorway hops are really fine, very enjoyable in fact.

I was looking at a 1275 and higher diff (I've a bored 1275 in the garage, just need a few 8 day weeks at the moment :D )

I think you're right Jonah681, go for standard, run it for a while, then mod it to your own tastes?

I think if I was commuting in such a way as I would consider doing it in a Minor I'd run a standard set up. I've always found that modifying an everyday car is an endless road as the performance you have is never quite enough.
Having said that a modified Minor as a 'weekend toy' is very satisfying.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

My youngest graduated from Stirling last year, after a four year course = at least six trips north and back delivering goods and chattels, whilst No 2 son went on train... and that was from West Bromwich at the time! I nearly fainted with shock the first time when I got to the border and the tripometer turned over two hundred miles, whilst the SatNav was telling me there were still another one hundred miles to go!

Going from Geordieland should be a piece of cake!!

Stirling's a great place to spend four years, though (well it would - its the residual Welshness that does it) - what's your ankle-biter studying?

Not sure if someone in Geordieland should be responding to anyone in West Brom after this weekend! Actually, the family are Geordies - I'm from Rugby, so a confirmed egg-chaser & my brother's a life-long Baggie.

She is studying marine biology, rugby & beer. I needed to borrow a Transit sized van to shift gear in May & to take to her new flat next month. It was the in-between trips (still over 250 mile round trip from here) with odd supplies that prompted whether a modified set up would be better than standard.

Ultimately, a JLH-job would be the ultimate.
