ah - but then it was probably a multiplate wet clutch - generally robust, although I'm not sure about cork - surprisingly it's not used in our stuff :lol:

I had the clutch plates for a BSA C11 re-corked in a little shop in Brighton many years ago.
It is apparently possible to DIY with corks from wine bottles.
As rayofleamington says a multiplate wet clutch.
Wet means runs in oil!

Cork, not plastic. Wine colour is optional.
