Barn Find help no documents

Post by BarrieTyrer »

I obtained a Traveller last year which I am rebuilding. The previous owner cant find or will not hand over the documentation I did a check on the DVLA web site and got the following

Date of Liability 01 11 1991
Date of First Registration 17 02 1971
Year of Manufacture Not Available
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 997CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Petrol
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour BLACK
Vehicle Type Approval null

Any suggestions of what I should do next

Thanks for the reply

Not sure if he has them, he was a bit vague adout it. I am positive the vehicle was his it looked like it had been there for a very long time. I am a bit concerned that it wasent taxed or sorn when it should have been.

Play it straight before you lash out too much money. You don't need the old documents to get a V5C, apply now and get your name down as the keeper, then you can declare sorn or tax it (if its motable).

Heres a link to the required form

CanterburyAlan, I agree, but the car has changed owners so may need to be SORN... (unsure)?

Yes, I believe once a change of ownership happens the car then needs to be SORN'd - It was discussed before but I can't find the thread now...

Strange the engine capacity is 997 cc - since this engine was ONLY used in the early Mini Cooper - and cannot be fitted to a Minor. Are you sure the reg number is actually for a Morris Minor - and not for a Mini Cooper !

And travellers weren't black after July 1969 although I suppose the colour could have been changed at some point. Do you have a chassis number? As BMC says, its possible that the reg number you have is not for this vehicle.

I purchased my car in 2000 which had not been taxed since 1987, i also had to apply for the log book. Its true that if tax ran out before 1998 a sorn is not required. My car is not sorn and I have not had any problem. My car is still private light goods not historic tax classified, i have been told by the dvla they can only change this when i come to tax it!. I asked them to do it when I sent in the old style v5 for a v5c but they would not. Will prob end up paying to tax it when the time comes and then sending for a refund and tax change!

Sorry have been out, what a lot of information and lots of things I need to look into. The colour has been changed the origional colour was pale blue. I have already started to strip it down to the body shell. The underside is in a bad way. I will have a good look at the plate for more info.

If you can get to a regional DVLA office they will do both for you at the same time. That's how my Dad changed my Saloon for me.

yes - been there 3 times, got the T shirt :(
Local office (Coventry) was closed so not great but it's always fun to get something for nothing at the end of it.
