Brake drums- what is wrong with these?!?

At the rear - you should first free off the handbrake cable - and last, tighten it up again to where you want the hand brake to operate. Some like 2 'clicks' - others like 5 or 6. Of course - you should never in practice 'click' the handbrake ratchet - always press in the button, pull up the lever, then release the button to lock it in place !

Why should in practice you never 'click' the handbrake? ... surely if it was going to wear out it would have done so in the 40 previous years when the advice was to just yank the chuffer up until it stopped clicking?

IMO, it's when it stops clicking as you yank it up that you want to get worried!!
