New Engine Service Schedule

Post by pao7psb »

A few months ago I had a new engine put in Snowdrop, and she has subsequently had her 500 mile oil and filter change, alongside a minor service. The garage has put in the next service as being in another 500 miles' time. This seemed a bit keen to me, so I emailed the engine manufacturer and they have advised me that after the 500 mile check they recommend that the engine is serviced in compliance with the original manufacturer's recommendations. I reckon this means in 3000 miles time, not 500 - would the rest of you concur?

Cheers,

Paul.

Paul, Ask the garage if there is a reason they want to service it again so soon? Could be a genuine mistake or since it is a new engine they are possibly being careful? Jeff

3000 will be fine ! They are 'at it' ! Was the head torqued down and valve gaps re-set at the 500 mile 'service' ? Should have been !

Why not service it yourself after 500 miles?

It's not as hard as it looks ;)

Hi Paul 3,000 miles will be fine, the mileages are a guideline and not critical.
With my recently rebuilt engine the oil was changed at 600 miles as I was at an event at 500 miles and didn't have time until the next weekend it went on the rolling road at 800 miles as they said with a rebuilt engine it wanted at least 750 miles on it before they put it through its paces on the rolling road its now done 1300 miles and I won't be changing the oil until 3,000 as reccommended, the only exception I believe in is to change the oil annually if you do less than 3,000 miles a year.
Cheers

I did purchase the "Servicing the Minor" DVD at the National, building up my confidence may take more than 500 miles though

do you have a guarantee with the people that supplied the engine? maybe if you do not go back to them for the service you will lose your guarantee?

I thought I spotted an Oselli sticker at Hatfield House

I think the garage have just made a mistake -perhaps they're not used to dealing with Minor engines? Mine is going in for it's 500 mile service shortly but won't be needing another one at 1000 miles.

No, they still work on engines and do sell series A engines for Minors and Spridgets. I always wanted one :o

This message board is like a family - you can't choose the other members!! But remember engine oil is thicker than water.

Engine was from Ivor Searle, who tell me that the original manufacturer's schedule is fine once the 500 mile oil+filter change etc has been done.

Cheers,

Paul.
