Bonnet fitting

Post by daveallgood »

Having re-positioned my grille and re-assembled the surround etc, I've temporarily bolted everything back onto the car. The bonnet won't close properly now. I pushed it down part of the way and only managed to open it by using a couple of screwdrives to lever the spring up. I've moved the plate back towards the engine and so far have cautiously lowered the bonnet. The catch engages and releases alright but I'm wary of pushing the bonnet down all the way (if it goes) in case it wont open with the pull. Is there anything I should do first or do I have to push it down and hope that it opens?
What do I do if it closes and won't open -- apart from putting a metal cutting blade in my jigsaw and dissecting the bonnet.
I'd be grateful for any help.

Remove the badge at the front, then if the worst happens you just unscrew the spring mechanism from the bonnet.
