Pull Start Knob

hi there ni have a series II saloon with a pull start knob how can i take it of to fit a new one i know there are 2 bolts that hold the cable but i cant get to them being as they are in the way of the dash is there any other way i can do this.

if you reach up the back of the dash you can disconnect it from the started switch its self and then pull the know out a bit more. I think the outer is held by a nut but cant remember if its inside or outside the dash.
while you have it in bits could you please take some pics of the bits involved cos when I reassemberd mine I made something to work but I would like the right gear in there

The switch is held to bulkhead with a center nut. This nut also retains a bracket that extends back to hold the outer part of the cable. At the end of the rod that goes through the switch is a brass sleeve that is held onto the rod with a screw and there is another screw that holds the cable. Your steering wheel will make access terrible and it is all very close to the pressing that is below the fascia.
You need to loosen the screw holding the cable and remove the cable. Then you need to remove the brass sleeve by loosening the screw holding it to the switch center rod. Now you have access to the center nut. Remove the nut and the switch is free.
