Those inner wings are an easy fix Josh. I had to do mine, it's a great opportunity to get the rust out of the hidden section and get some paint in their before you weld it up. Keep some water handy though if you do paint inside incase when you are welding and the paint inside starts to smoke. ;)

Out of curiosity, how exactly do you take the wing off a Minor ? Is it simply just a case of undoing some bolts in the engine bay ? I only ask as I want to take a wing off to get it resprayed rather than doing it on the car.

No, the bolts are in the wheel arch. All but the frontmost bolt screws into captive nuts in the inner wing. You also need to remove the hockey stick, which is held on with three small (2BA) nuts on the back, and disconnect the wires for the lights.iandromiskin wrote:Out of curiosity, how exactly do you take the wing off a Minor ? If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

In theory its as simple as unbolting them.
In practice it has been N years since they were last undone and in that time the fixings have been subjected to whatever British roads can throw at them and will have corroded somewhat.
If you look along the top edge of the inner wing you will see some the captive nuts that hold the wing on.
If you clean the accumulated muck from behind the hockey sticks you will see how they are fixed.
and around the wing the bolt heads of the wing bolts.
Clean all the crud off these and start soaking them in some kind of penetrating oil (not WD40) ASAP.
Use the proper sized ring spanner 1/4 Whitworth or socket. Once it is in place as well as possible (not held half off the bolt with dirt) then give it the " short sharp shock " treatment.
It's the only thing they understand
.
There are also 3 or 4 bolts on the back edge of the wing the same applies to the heads but you can see the captive parts so you are in the lap of the gods with them.
If none of the captive nuts turn then go and buy a lottery ticket cos the gods are smiling on you

I'm afraid to say Josh that there should be one more captive bolt at the bottom of the inner wing (if you look at a wing you will see there is a section for a bolt to go through at the bottom too...
If you aren't going fret too much. If you don't bolt it up the wing will "drum" a bit as the car goes along but nothing too serious. The other solution I've hear of is a self tapping screw with a chunky washer to hold the wing in place

Two of them in a vertical line, a couple of inches apart.Dan_Harris wrote:I'm afraid to say Josh that there should be one more captive bolt at the bottom of the inner wing

It's ok Josh (we've all been there
)... another solution is to measure where the holes are on the other side and mark where they should be on this side. Make yourself a small patch, cut out some clearance holes and weld two nuts to it the same distance apart on the patch that they should be on the wing. Cut out the holes in your newly welded patch on the car big enough for the nuts to go through. Then weld your new patch onto the other new patch with the nuts inside the wing. The worst that can happen is the wing sticks out proud from the door by a few millimeters. ;)
Or do what Dan says just self tapper them on.
I think I've explained myself ok....
