Door handles and eschution plate wobbles

Post by ani »

Anyone got any quick tips (easy ones) on how to stop the door handles from wobbling. I've undone the two screws that look as if they relate but nothing happens!! Irritating rattles :o

There's a small spring that breaks (part of the handle mechanism). I believe you can get another spring replacement, but it's fiddly to do. If the escutcheon plate "wobbles" is usually means that a bit of the rear mount has broken off. It can either be replaced (pick-up handle part is pricey) or using a sticky "buddy" ! :D

Sticky pads great idea :D Unfortunately they only supply these springs for the four door - for the traveller you have to get a whole new assembly :( :( The handle will just have to wobble

Suggestion: have a look in the Sat am autojumble at the National Rally - I've picked up some very good chrome bits and bobs there. Thinking about it it was the 4 dr spring we did. As you say I had to buy a new assembly for my Traveller. Got a good secondhand one from the above. :D

Great! It happens to be both of them :-( and both sides have locks with different keys and yet another key for the ignition!!!! Keep that for me and let me know how much :-) Thanks - maybe you'll find the one for the other side :-) Not looking forward to fitting!

the escution plate on the 2 doors are different than the 4 door or pick ups, they are held in place by a spring clip on the bak

and fitting locks is a night mare job really, tho i have done it a few times

lock barrels can be changed to suit one key

OK - this is what I need: 1 escutcheon plate for the passenger side of the pick-up - so if you've got one of them I'd like it.
The problem with the traveller is both door handles wobble about - up ad down and sideways! I understand you can only get the replacement spring for four door models. I like the idea of having both barrels to match. The other odd thing is you can only ock and unlock the passenger door from the outside.

If the handle is wobbly it could just be the pin that secures it. Sometimes these are removed and re fitted incorrectly allowing the handle to shake. The escutcheon plate may have lost the securing clip from inside the door, if its gone, try shrinkwrap heated over the pin, this normally works well.

Jonathon, I like the sound of that -) The pin you mention - is that known as the retaining spring clip? Looking at a diagram there is something else called an eccentric pin :o think that might be to do with the inside locking lever! What's shrinkwrap and where do you get it?

on the inside of the passenger door there may be a hole for a lever for the inside of the door, this is used to lock the lock from inside

heatshrink is heatshrink tubing, comes in a variety of colours and diameters and is put on over the little stud and get a hairdrier or heat gun and the tubing will shrink over the stud, of couse the plate needs to be on teh door first

I'm sure this is all simple stuff!!! If I can't fix maybe I'll be able to find some secondhand fittings at the National
