I've just fitted a couple of top trunion kits bought from Bull Motif - but I have a query about the rear nuts. Can't find a torque figure in my manual, or any other definition of how tight they should be (just says they shouldn't be tightened until the weight of the car is on the wheel).
The trunions I removed had shorter nuts, held set by a washer bent up against a flat - the washers on the trunion kit seem too thick to be intended to do that trick, but the nuts don't appear to have any sort of locking mechanism (i.e. they're not nylocks)......
Can anybody set me straight? Cheers Alex
I thought those nuts did up against a shoulder so it put the rubbers under a pre determined compression? then the tab washer was knocked over to retain it?
Have you been supplied with the incorrect tab washers, I would have a word with the supplier.
I think the washers probably would knock up, though they do look a little thicker than I would have expected - but what is the 'pre-determined compression'? I just can't find a figure, measurement or torque setting to use.....
It's the nut on the end with two flats and tightens against one of the thick washers that compress the rubbers. I guess an 18" bar and lean on it some could equate to &^%£!! ?
If you look at the thick washer it should have a recess on one side where it slides over the shock absorber pivot pin allowing it to go on further one way round than the other. As BMC says, do it up &^%£ !! tight! A bit of lubrication on the bushes will help.
Those locking washers do seem to be thicker nowadays so do take a bit of knocking over to lock. I just drill the pin and put on a castle nut and split pin to secure, same as on the shocker side.
