Traveller rear floor repair section

Post by taupe »

Hi

Ive been looking at the repairs needed to the rear floor/floor extension of my traveller.

Yet again Im dissapointed in the repair panels available.

My traveller has a tow bar fitted and I want to maintain the original details and strength of structure in this area.

The problem is that the repair sections are not as original. They are only 2mm thick by virtue of the rear floor overlapping the rear extension panel (Z shaped bit).

The original should be 5mm thick at this point.

On both my travellers there is an original additional 1/8" thick angle spot welded underneath the floor extension panel which goes full width of the car and bolts to the rear body mountings below the rear timber pillars. On the floor extension there are also 5 tags to retain the wiring.

I may still be able to use a repair panel and add the reinforcing but will have to get the 1/8" angle fabricated as I cant cut and fold this thick myself.

I will be getting this angle made in the next few weeks at a local sheet metal shop and I just thought that if anyone else would like one made at the same time?? Send me a PM or I can post the dimensions. It will be cheaper if I have more than one made!!

Pretty sure my Traveller does NOT have rear floor 5mm thick! Sure this is not some re-inforcing for the tow bar fitting ? There is a light angle at the rear of my floor- but it's not 1/8" thick. Just normal panel thickness.

No Im not saying the whole floor is 5mm thick... just at the rear Z section

It is an original fitment as I said - not added for the tow bar!

It is exactly the same on my other traveller too.

Here are some pics - not very good Im afraid as taken on mobile phone under the car!!

This one shows the original floor from the top you can see the angle thro the round hole next to the red cable

In this one you can see the edge of the Z section at the wheelarch and the 3mm angle next to it which forms a channel for the body bolts. The floor panel is sandwiched between the two.

In this one you can see the angle running across the car and where it passes under the tow bar tie bracket . Floor plus Z section plus 3mm angle = 5mm thick
