Speedo Drive

Post by d_harris »

I've recently had a spate of snapped speedo cables and I'm at a loss to explain why, two different gearboxs, two different cables...

I'm thinking its either the speedo unit (replacement already obtained :D ) or that the path of the cable makes too tight a turn somewhere (I'm at a loss to explain where though)

Now, I today tried to remove the old speedo cable, and I did to find that the remains of the gearbox end of the cable are stuck solid - I've not had a chance to have a proper look as I did this in a carpark, but what can I do to get it out, or is a replace the drive job?

It could be a damaged outer casing which is breaking the inner cable. If you undo the cable at the gearbox end you should be able to remove the broken bits, If not you may have to remove the drive gear from the gearbox.

Two seperate outers....

There is no speedo cable attached at all at the moment. Inner or outer! So looks like I need to remove the drive then...

that'll be fun
