Is this worth looking at?

Hello again!

I am really interested in looking at this car:

Wondering if there were any forum members in the area that could lend their expertise for a few hours?

I spoke to the owner, seems nice, he hasn't owned the car long at all (since last September I think), a present for his dad, who doesn't really want a MM?!

He mentioned a plate needing replacing on the under carriage...I just don't have the confidence to look at it by myself, I can't really afford to buy a project!!

The car is located in east Lincolnshire (Skegness)

Any thoughts?

I am putting my mobile number because we just moved and we are having terrible difficulties with our internet conncetion (as in non-existant!!) and don't know when the phone company will fix the pbm!

Hi Ingrid, As the car is posted on our message board you have already read all our comments! The general opinion at the time was that the car seemed to be a nice clean car and prettry genuine. But as with every purchase you really need to go and see for your self.
Migh be worth PM-ing Toginthemog as he's in Skegness, or perhaps Grumpygrandad might have some time spare. It's always worth asking

I'm not aware of any other forum members in skeggy. IMHO it looks like an honest, solid car at a decent price.

Do you not have any mechanically minded friends who you might be able to drag along with you?

I'm sure someone will spare the time - from all the comments it certainly looks like a good buy. I traveled all the way to Newcastle to look at the Pick-up and bought it just because I liked it!! No an ideal thing to do but unless there is something terrible wrong with it you'll be able to get it fixed

They certainly look like honest sellers and I hope you buy it- I like it

That's pretty much what I'm trying NOT to do!! I am the same and will buy things, especially old things, because I like them....but that's not very rational!!

I would certainly feel much better with someone who knows what they're looking at, rather than me thinking it "looks" lovely....I'll take it!

I does look like a nice car from the pics, but as I said, they bought it not even a year ago....and I don't think anything was done to it since. It probably just sat there, whether that's good or bad, don't know.

I did read the comments on the post, I must admit I glazed over a bit about the light discussion

as most of it went over my head!

I will try PM'ing and see if someone is available.

Nope, not really! I'm the mechanical one in the family, my husband is more......artistic?!

I just moved to the U.K. about 9 month ago and can't say I am good friends with any mechanically inclined folks

it looks a tidy car for not a lot of moneyi would say go for it,but take someone with you to look the car over,if you dont know what to look for.

Good luck - you're absolutely right I am a bit irrational and probably a bit mad but I am enjoying it

Great having an artistic husband - he can do the re-spray

As for the light conversation I know exactly what you mean but these topics do have a tendency to go off the original topic ............. on that note I'l go away and hope that a moggie expert will come to assist you bearing in mind that is what you originally asked for

it looks an honest unbodged, unrestored car and they are the best to go for

if it was a 2 door i would have bought it for that price

If you don't find anyone perhaps someone on the forum could give you a reasonable list of the important things to look out for.

Also, trust your gut instinct, if something doesn't seem quite right it probabally isn't. Also, be prepared to walk away if it doesn't fit the bill.

That said, IMHO it looks alright - but then we've not seen the underside or heard it runnning!

main things on these are bad welding repairs, check cross member for rust
inner arches, spring hangers at the rear

if possible take someone with you

i would have a look if i lived nearer

any way good luck

as i say if it was a 2 door it would have been sold to me
