Engine troubles in the cold

Hi all,
I'm having a few problems with my car at the moment when I use it on a morning, it seems to be idling very slow. Even with the choke fully out I have to keep revving so that the engine doesn't cut out so of course it dies every time I stop at traffic lights. Also it starts to missfire when I accelerate.
Once it warms up though it's fine and later on in the day when it's generally warmer I have no problems at all.
It's probably something really simple needs adjusting, so what's it likely to be?

There are two idle screws on the carb - the main one adjusts the normal idle speed, the other acts on the choke cam, and therefore sets the idle speed when the choke is pulled. If you look at the carb it will be obvious - I think. just screw the choke idle screw down slightly- but make sure it remains clear of the choke cam when the choke is not pulled.
