Dan
I've just picked up 2.5 ltrs of Rustolium & 1ltr thinners for Molly from Andrews coatings in Wolverhampton. The guy there suggested that 2.5 Ltrs should be enough.
Opened the tin expecting Maroon and it's more like Pillar Box or Cherry red, don't know how I'll get on asking for it to be re-mixed.
I'm thinking of spraying it on though.
Ok Dan, Rustoleum! I have seen some vehicles done with this paint and have yet to see one that looks good! The few I have seen that looked ok from a distance! had taken there owners a long time to get it looking like that. It really depends on what type of finish you want, have you ever painted gloss paint with a roller? Thats the sort of finish you would get. The best panels to paint are nice and flat, chuck in a few curves and tricky bends and it all goes pair-shaped! Also take into account the removal of the rusoleum paint should you wish to have a better paint job in the future. If you chuck enough time and effort into it, you could end up with a paint job that is passable from a few feet away!
Back to your original question, I would guess 2.5 - 3 ltrs would be enough to give you a cover you need to thin it down so probably a couple of ltrs of that. Im sure you dont need a primer thats the whole idear of rustoleum. You paint a coat on then flat it back then paint and flat and paint and flat! etc etc! Let us know if you do decide to do it and what sort of finish you obtain.
My current paint job isn't passable from a few metres away, it really really is that bad. Its an attempt at being presentable rather than a compete mess...
And Brian, red paints tend to darken down hugely when they dry (I used to do paint mixing for one of the big DIY chains) so try it on a bit of steel and see what happens
Thanks Dan
I have brush painted a couple of 2" patches on the door pillar to see how it goes. The first is streaky in coverage, tje second, with a bit more loading on the brush covered much better. The finish and shine is beautiful though.
