Some time ago I asked how much should be skimmed of the 12G 295 head and Willie came to the rescue (He's a real mine of practical information and has been a treasure to this message board in all it's formats)
I skimmed the head 60 tho and checked the combustion chamber volumes - they are spot on for what I wanted. I was intending to refit the head to the engine in the car , but have just picked up a reconditioned and balanced 1098 short block so was thinking of using it on this, adding the gearbox thst I reconditioned 5 years, ago for a trouble free run. (Well, the Power unit shouldn't give any problems)
The block has had a Duplex chain and spin off Filter added, but what intrigues me is that it's got a Harmonic Balancer, which I have'nt seen on a Minor before It has some markings on it "Holset, R203540, 12G282"
Is it off a Mini, and is it worthwhile?

Yes, it would be off a late Mini. It probably wouldn't make a difference on a standard type engine, but would be worthwhile on a high revving engine. If it came with a harmonic damper, then I'd use it anyway. Not too sure what the number mean though - the 12G # appears to be BMC though
The Minor crankshaft pulley is very weak. Quite often you'll hear a slight squeak from the engine, this develops into a rattle, then the pulley can break apart with predictable consequences.
Even a solid type pulley from a Mini is better than the pressed steel & rivetted Minor one.
A couple of our members' cars have had this happen. My car did it years ago, but luckily the piece flew down & not up & only ended up cutting the brake switch wiring.
