brake servo

Post by poppet »

Hi
I have a brake servo kit fitted to my moggie. At the moment I am losing brake fluid from the resevoir and it appears to be sucked into the manifold. Is this problem rectifiable or does it need a new unit?
Thanks
Steve

It's one of the problems with servos - if you have drum brakes I suggest you remove it! Drum brakes don't need a servo.
Otherwise - you may be able to get an overhaul kit of seals for it - or fit a new servo.
Are you sure the fluid is not leaking at any of the wheel cylinders ? If it's being sucked in the manifold by the servo - there should be a puff of white smoke from the exhaust each time you use the brakes.

Brakes are discs and white smoke is visible!
Looks like it's time to but another servo
Thanks for the response

Past Parts http://www.pastparts.co.uk/ helped me out with a seal kit a while ago.
If the main diaphram is damaged / worn though it's probably not worth repairing as I bought a brand new servo kit for under £80 off eBay. Didn't fit it to my Minor thought as new drums improved the braking so much it wasn't needed. It's now going on my A35 which is having disc brakes and 1275 / autobox
