Is this a way to fit discs safely?

Post by leyther8008 »

It appears the used disc brake set I aquired has been done by fitting an entire Marina? stub axle to a minor leg and welding it in, this explains why I could'nt get the bearing collar off!! below I compare it to a standard leg I have, can anybody confirm it is a marina stub axle? notice the splined bit just below the thread.

and the weld on the rear of the leg around the stub axle rear.

Normally the leg would be precision machined to accept the Marina stub axle and the end retaining clip simply re fitted. Welding the part in does throw doubt over the engineering aspect of this job, but in itself is not necessarily a problem. It just basically scraps both parts should you need to replace the swivel pin due to worn trunnion threads.
I have a cunning plan though if you wish to PM me. :D

I agree but the bottom trunnion can be moved about a 32nd up and down and side to side maybe its trunnion wear, but the only other one for that side I have is on the van at present.

I would try a new trunnion on there! Good investment to have a spare anyway.
