I'll put my post here then!

I was about to make a reply to a recent post, only to find it locked because of the apparent possibility of the thread becoming boring to some, or possibly covering old ground. So what? there is always a new slant on things, and any thread will naturally peter out eventually. I can understand insulting words etc might be considered iffy, but don't lets start locking a thread on a whim before any crime has been committed.
Btw, my intended reply was to suggest that the best thing the original poster might be better doing, was to build standard first, then modify if the car turns out to be a success, as from what I understand he was loosing enthusiasm already, and spending money on discs etc could be wasted if the car doesn't get finished. Maybe he will accidentally come across this post and read my reply!

My point was the age old BORING argument over which is better - disc's or drums. It is boring, regardless. Each of us have our own preference and I don't want to read the same stuff over and over again... I have always advocated getting the standard brakes working correctly first, so I agree with you on that point, Les. But, there is no point having a search facility and leaving old topics on the forum if we just keep re-writing them all the time....

Well the reply I wanted to make, may or may not, have been helpful.
The point is I could not make it! If the post did turn out as you say then that would be a more justifiable time to act. The moderator should have given the thread a sporting chance to exist.

You can make your point now Les.
I did ask for pm's on the subject and I recieved some so its been unlocked, but not one from yourself for some reason just another post with a gripe, thats why I asked for pm's on the subject.

Kevin,

Maybe it would be a good idea to create a 'sticky' here regarding the search facility and advise people how to use it? There have been a large number of questions posted recently which could have been answered by just checking the 'search' facility. Perhaps it would be a good idea to advertise it so that new members are aware of how they can find the answers they need quickly.

A very good idea Lou, we do tend to go round in circles sometimes.

We'd been in circles on that topic so often a few years ago that I got sick and dizzy and fell off the board! :)

I agree with you Lou but I will leave it up to Bill to do the sticky as I have to admit that I find the search facility rather cumbersome to use.
Cheers

Seeing as the MM is over 50 years old i would guess that there is practically no subject that has not been discussed on a regular basis. If i feel that a subject is 'boring' or been talked to death before then i dont reply to it.
We, i assume, welcome new members and the impression formed by these new members could be that they are not allowed to ask what they fear to be a stupid question. I cant imagine anyone asking a question to which they already know the answer.
If i know that subject has been addressed before on another thread and you know what the link is, i would just post a link to it.(if i knew how to do that :D )
It would be the friendlier thing to do.

I frequently post links to other threads but think it would be useful to make everyone aware of the search facility. I use it frequently myself if I'm looking for a quick answer. It's a useful tool.

I don't think that anyone is suggesting that new members shouldn't ask questions that have already been asked :-?

I'm out tonight, but I will see what I can do tomorrow. Oh the joy of taking early retirement

As a newish member I heartily agree with these sentiments. On the question of the search facility, I'd say it's as good – or as bad – as most internet search facilities.
