Hi,
I'm afraid that my question may be absolutly nonsense but I'l make it anyway...
Is it physically possible to couple to an 948 cc engine the gearbox used in conjunction with the old sidevalve 918cc engine?
If so, is that feasable or just a funny way to reck both components?
Thanks,
Pedro

Dear Longdog,
You read my mind! In fact have a January '54 Series II (whitch means previous to the major changes that took place on October that year) that should have a 803cc engine and corresponding gearbox. I write should because it hasn't! Someone has changed it to the later 948cc engine and later type gearbox. Eventualy I'd like to bring the car back to its original engine but have failed to find one until now. The reason because I would like to do this is to keep things as original as possible. As you pointed out, the gearstick is different, a bit more backwards. This means that I have to use a later type gearbox cover and the correct-for-the-year pattern of carpeting does not fit and also have to use the later type handbrake lever because the correct one is too long for such a backwards positioned gearstick and interferes with it!
Due to the fact that I found a 918cc engine and corresponding gearbox I thought that it might be feasable to swap them.
I understand now that it is not so I'll try to contact Jonh Evans as you advise me.
My thanks,
Pedro
