I'm thinking of taking a punt on this....
... assuming that a pm I sent earlier on this messageboard doesn't bear fruit!

What do people think? Does it look too good to be true?

It looks very good.. but the only way to really tell is take it for a test drive and have a look around underneath to see the chassis condition.
It does not sound too good to be true at 1K yes it would be to good to be true but you do not know what the reserve is.
One bad point is that he has used red oxide... there are far far better anti rust treatments out there these days but a this is lot better than nothing.
Why is bmcecosse finding it hard to resist the "high lift" cams? The standard cam shaft in the moggy is designed to be a good compromise across the rev range for a range of drivers giving a smooth drive and acceptable accelration. The emphasis in the last sentence is firmly on compromise, "high lift" cams should improve the ability of the engine to accelerate and allow you to rev the engine higher but will be slightly less smooth at low speed. The trouble is if the cam shaft is too "lumpy" i.e. they are very "high lift" cams it will run very roughly at low speeds but be very good at high speed. So it depends on your driving style.. if you are going to be sitting in trffic jams all day long you might find a high lift cam is a bit of a pain to live with, if you are a "spirited" driver high lift cams are great!
