saloon to convertible
hi all well i need help
i have finished the long rebuild of a saloon to convertible after the oringal shell of the convertible just fell apart and well when the garage roof fell in finished it off
i could of kept the log book and did the doggy thing and swaped them over (i wish now i did )
i have sent the log book off to the one and only Dvla
it came back saying need to be inspected yes no worries but need to fill out a lot of forms for kit car readical changes to the car and chassie
the old thing has still got teh orginal gearbox diff and keys i know this from the heratige cert i have for it only things that have changed are the colour ,engine and now the roof
i just dont get this as a saloon has the fixings there for the side windows .
in the days when these cars was made they was all made so could be either or like the herald ,spitfire stag ,tr5 etc
they also say in teh paper work that it will get a new chassie number and a new reg ie a q plate

According to the DVLA, any significant modifications to a bodyshell, results in SVA test and Q plate. However, I remember reading somewhere, probably in the Federation of Historic Vehicle Clubs mag that Minor convertible conversions,, were going to be exempt from this as its a proper conversion to a factory produced version, rather than a home brewed stretch limo, or custom car. IF you can't get any help from ESM, try Rosie and Sandy Hamilton, Sandy was well involved with the FHVCs and should be well placed to advise. Alternatively, Rob Thomason - MMOC technical adviser.
Theres no way you should have to SVA a normal convertible conversion, also worth phoning the DVLA and explaining this, I'd guess the person who processed your paperwork, wasn't quite on the ball to say the least...

its only £24 for a years membership, so hardly a huge dent in the wallet

Don't forget this website and all the ones hosted for branches and the advice from a technical advisor if you need it as well as spares for the early cars, and it only works out at £2 a month which is half the price of most magazines these days so I still think its good value but each to their own.aupickup wrote:i suppose we have to think , what do we get for our £24.00
a magazine,
possible lower insurance but not in all cases
a national rally that anyone can go to
hmmm, makes you wonder
Cheers
