It is the body number which was allocated when the body was assembled. This is different to the chassis number which gets allocated when the complete car is assembled.....

:) If it is the body number, then would there be any records as to what chassis number was allocated to which body on final production / registration at the manufacturers. Or am I being a bit deep

There doesn't seem to be any records in existance for this cross referencing. One chap on here "Cam" was trying to build a database to try and make some sense of them but I don't think he got enough info to work it out. You could always try sending him a pm....

If you look in the original production registers at held at Gaydon you can look against your chassis number and see the numbers of the engine, gearbox, axle, etc. I can't remember whether they include the body number or not, but a phone call to the reading room should get the answer.

They do include the body number and these records are held at Gaydon and cross reference with the chassis number.

PSL184, you are quite right. I did not get enough info to make proper sense of it all..... YET!!!

My Heritage Trust Certificates both include the body no:-
FBE 11/165571 = 76014
M-AW5/1233082 = 195507
Any use to your studies Cam?

Suggest you PM them to him - perhaps then he could gather everybodies details and he'd have more to go on.
