rover 400 desiel no heater

I know this is not a morris question but does anyone have the answer to why we have almost no heat coming from a heater on a rover 400 desiel we have tried a new thermostat today a new water pump the rad is not that old and the heater valve has been changed near the bulkhead. temp is on normal and we have checked it for air lock. I confess I am beaten with this one as the owner is 70+ quad heart by pass I would have liked to keep him warm in his car. Beaten yes, anyone help or do you know anyone you can ask. typical old chap not complaining

The only other thing I can think of is if the control cable for the heat has detatched itself somehow and not operating the valve or the flaps?

Dont some systems have to be bled out to make them work properly, have you also checked the heater pipes are they getting warm as sometimes airlocks in the heater are only released by pulling off the outlet hose with the engine running (can be messy so be prepared) the other possibility is that one of the heater hoses has collapsed internally restricting the water flow.

spent the afternoon on it again flowed water both ways through the heater refilled the heater with water shut the valve off so it was full and reconnected it has done some good as there is an acceptable amount of heat but not brill so we are in the right area. the cable is connected as we put a new valve on. will look in to hose pipes but the old chap needs it back for a few days thanks for advice

On these later cars - I think they are 'air blending' - so there may be a flap jammed half way between cold and hot - simply allowing too much fresh air to bypass the heater core ?

A good thought as it has air con when I get it back I will look into it trouble with new cars is the heaters are hidden behind a massive plastic coated dash so hard to get to, on a citroen van we run the whole dash has to come out to get to the heater mattrix 2 day job

Tell me about it - I have a TR7 - and the heater is well buried ! Dreading the day that needs some attention.

If it has air-con, the connection to the heater control may be electric rather than a straight mechanical link, so the air con function can work automatically. If so, it may seem like the heater control is working, but the electric motor may not be responding (had this on the Xantia, intermittently works or not!). Have you tried googling the problem? Often throws up useful forums for these sort of things! Good luck!

It will only have an electrical solenoid if it has "Climate Control" fitted ie auto air con. If it is straight forward "air con" ie fixed temp distribution then it is a mechanical mixer valve which is located within the matrix / blower assy. You didn't say it had air con to start with so never thought of this. The valve can stick esp if they are not adjusted frequently and I'm afraid the whole matrix assy has to come out to get to the valve....
