Car Covers

Good evening all.

Clover - the restoration project has been in a garage (somewhat cold and damp) for the past 16 years from what I can gather. Now she is with us and going through the early stages of her resto she is living on the drive. She has a fair bit of rust on the body panels right now and leaks a bit due to the iffy window rubbers.

Should I consider investing in a cover to keep her dry? I've heard that car covers can make the car "sweat" and rust quickly, but then she is kept dry. Also there seems to be an argument to allow her outside to get wet and dry off naturally without trapping moisture within.

I've also noticed huge price variations in car covers from £20 to £hundreds. I'm thinking that she's best to sit outdoors as she was designed to be, and get regularly washed and dried off. I'd be really grateful for anyones thoughts on this!

well mine was outside for a few years covered in surface rust
now the work is done, its still outside

Definitely get it covered one way or another - my Cover-zone cover is excellent - and even in pouring wet weather, as it 'clings' to the car - the inner surface is dry and the car is bone dry too! However - I only use mine in 'summer' - for real winter weather you may want to consider some extra restraints.
There is no doubt - if it's lying outside in the rain it will rot away in no time - it MUST be dry!

No -always bone dry - it 'breathes' - and has little vents at the top. I have been forced to put it on the wet car - don't like doing so - but rain was promised for next few days - and next day, even though still raining - the car was dry under the cover. It's loose enough that it 'blows up' like a balloon as the wind gusts! I did have a cheap cover at first - absolutely hopeless - only fit to be a dust cover indoors. It was sold as 'waterproof' - far from it! Complete waste of money. Spend the £100!
