Hi All, Does anyone know what colour the cooling blade should be on my 58 saloon. I know the later cars are yellow but was unsure whether the earlier cars were the same.

Have to say - I painted mine red since I happened to have a spare can - and when the engine is running the fan is not at all obvious - quite dangerous. So I do suggest yellow or white will be safer.
Our '58 had a yellow 2-bladed fan from when my mother bought it in 1965. Also I think that the water pump pulley was red - can anyone conform that is what it should be? Either that or silver??
I think that the fans were red up to the end of Series II production, and were then yellow. As for the pulleys, from my time at Cowley I seem to remember that the crankshaft pulley was green, having been sprayed with the engine as a whole, and the fan pulley the same colour as the fan blades.
PS It is exactly these kinds of questions that support my view that as many 'original' cars should be saved as possible. Not 'restored' to 'original' spec.

I take your point Bill. The car is very original but as it had been stored and hardly used in 16 years many of the engine components have suffered especially the alloy ones ie water pump and thermostat housing. The rest of the car is surprisingly good and i feel that the engine and the components need a spruce up. THe fan blad in question was yellow anyway but had rusted quite badly. I just wanted to check it was the right colour before i repainted it. I think the car deserves to look its best.
