Hi to all.

Just joined after rekindling my love affair with the humble moggy albeit via my daughter, she passed her test in September and after receiving several horrendous quotes for insurance, shelved the idea of her sharing my vehicle.

She wanted a small 'eco car' as the government likes to call em, cheap to run and insure until I regaled her with tales of my first vehicle, 1956 split screen 2 door, EFL 278 and all its charms, swinging the starting handle when the battery was weak..(nearly always but I wasnt rich enough to shell out for a new one back then) and other such pleasures.

Trawled the web, showed her some piccies and she is in love...insurance was a pleasant surprise too..up to now best quote based on an assumed purchase of a 2 door with a value of around £2000 is £700 full comp with her as owner and me as named driver.

Still in the looking stages at the minute as she has to raise a bit of cash before I chip in the rest but trawling through all the adds and sites such as this has given us both much pleasure..(we spent 3 hours online together the other night).

I live in Cleethorpes and often wonder if my old moggy is still around as I think she went to Louth to be done up when I sold her in 1979..at least that was what I was told.

Wouldn't mind another one for myself but having no garage or driveway, practicalities dictate otherwise. Will have to wrestle with my daughter when she gets mobile.

Welcome aboard! Minor is a good starter car - but really need to be in a DIY mood or they can get just as expensive as a modern car!

Thanks for the welcome.
Since she lives with me and it seems she has no plans to be moving anytime soon, it looks like it will be me who cops for the maintenance but to be honest, I am quite looking forward to some of it...unless a half shaft goes...had that on my old one and seem to remember having major problems clearing the diff of shattered metal.
Other than that, I can't wait.

Thanks Steve, I take it that means my old girl met her demise in 1985.
She was in possession of the 803cc of sheer unadulterated power when I bought her but I soon replaced that with the 1100cc unit. Never got round to telling Swansea tho'. Colour was indeed beige with rusty brown streaks around the bottom of the doors, sills, wings etc.
Will contact the local branch as you suggest Kevin, could avoid a very costly mistake.

Welcome. Hope your daughter enjoys hre Minor. She has found one way around the legalised age discrimination that is motor insurance.

A friends daughter had the same problem and has discovered that it is cheaper to insure a Triumph GT6 than a Vauxhall Corsa! She is 18.

What would you rather drive? (And she looks good in it, but perhaps I shouldnt tell her dad that!)
