First trip in the old girl since July.......

Post by grahamt7 »

and she's bugging me! Making me pay for leaving her idle for so long.

Took her out for a spin this evening to top up the tyres and fuel for a 100 mile round trip tomorrow. Even after driving for 10 miles every time I stopped at a junction I had to have the choke out or she stalled.

Came home and wound the idle screw, idling a very little better, went for a spin round the block and still stalling at the junctions (although I am now sooo proficient at bump starts :o). Wound the screw a little more and she now seems a bit better, but she is now idling at around 1800-2000 rpm.

Any ideas o Morris types?
Graham.

Piston is sticking in the carb due to gunged up fuel. Take top off carb and clean around piston sides. Careful not to bend the needle. Then try again.... Piston should drop firmly to the bottom when off throttle or else too much air gets in causing a stall...

:D :D :D :D :D

Gave the little piston doodah a good clean this morning - it was quite objectionable about coming out, and didn't display a much better disposition on re-entry. Went to work in Chester and back, about 95 miles the round trip. Phoned wife while I was at work, who obligingly (and surprisingly) agreed to pop into motor world and get some carburetter cleaner (and even more surprisingly managed to buy the correct stuff !! ho ho :D :D ).

Blasted the carb with it, gaveit a good blow through, so to speak. Now that little piston jobby drops straight back in, and ive dropped the idle speed from 1900 to approx 1350rpm. Would like to get it a little lower but it needs the engine warm to fettle with that.

Cheers again PSL

Working on the basis that no problem I have ever seems to have only one cause, have you filled the car with fresh petrol? This modern stuff seems to lose its go very quickly, if its been left with a little old fuel in the tank for 6 months that might not be helping!!

Yes, agree with above. Drop some fresh fuel in the tank and a bottle of redex to clean everything out - Glad you're on the way to been sorted out.... :-)
