Not really double taxation as it is exempt unless part of the service provided, so only one tax is paid. Wierd and wonderfull system that in the case of the MOT's saw many garages get into hot water with the VAT office. One garage was charged the VAT he had not charged his customers for MOT's which was then backdated 5/6 years, leading to a payment and fine of over £26,000.

me too - and rightly so in some cases. Special order parts incurr plenty of cost + time and effort so I can see why a supplier wouldn't want them back. For standard 'straight off the shelf' parts, the time involved to pick and pack is relevant but for an off the shelf 'catalogue' that someone thought was free included with a big order. I really do not understand a re-stocking charge.I've been stuck with this one, and handling fees for returning parts.
At the end of the day it's their business, so if they prefer to do that rather than keep a good customer it's up to them.
