alternator

Assuming that your car is NEGATIVE earth the wiring mods are:
remove the THIN yellow wire and the THIN yellow/green wire
from the regulator box and join them together, then insulate the
join. take the THICK yellow wire from terminal 'D' and connect
it to terminal 'A'. The alternator wires are: the THIN wire
which used to go to the dynamo goes to the 'IND' terminal and
the THICK dynamo wire goes to the '+' terminal.
THE CAR MUST BE NEGATIVE EARTH.

ALTERNATOR

Post by Willie »

As far as I am aware there should only be one black wire and,
yes, it goes to earth via a terminal under a bolt head which is
behind the main wiring loom which drops down towards the
starter motor(it is about six inches below the fuses.

wires

Post by Willie »

Well I can't see why you should have two wires on the same
terminal going to earth but it shouldn't make any difference to
the Alternator anyway. If you are satisfied with the wiring mods
you will have to get the Alternator checked, it looks as though it
could be suspect.

In the article that i read it say take the thin wire from term F and conect to the thin wire on term D then connect all the other wires from A1, A, and D together when i did it this way when i turn the head lights on the car cuts out

alternator

Post by Willie »

MORRISMANIC.....no, I still run the dynamo on my present
Minor because I value the reliability but I did fit one (ex Mini)
on my previous car (using the rewiring method I gave you above)
and had no problems over about six years! You do not connect
the thin wires on terminal'D', you remove them and connect
them away from the terminals, and it is obvious that connecting
all the other wires together is not the correct thing to do.
