Need help identifying a missing part

Post by MattRuch »

1969 Morris Minor two-door saloon
1098 engine with 4-speed gearbox

I'm completing an engine rebuild and find myself unable to find a part that I've misplaced...this missing bit fills the space between the dynamo adjustment bracket and the front engine plate.

I'm not sure if it's a simple metal sleeve that fits over a bolt, or it is something else.

Can anyone tell me what it is?

Can't think of a name for it but I would say it looks like a small "waisted" cotton reel with a stud through the middle.
Hope this helps :) and you will say "that's where that odd thing goes!"

There are various versions shown on this page - could be 12G289.

The most usual is item 27 on the upper right drawing - but as you can see from the other pictures - you can make something up temporarily with a bolt and some washers!

Thanks for the fast replies! I don't specifically recall what it looked like, but the bit labeled #10 sure looks like it would work. I did another look for something like that...no luck.

I've labeled every bit into plastic bags and taken my time on this...I'm not sure how I overlooked this bit.

thank you again

To close this out...a handful of washers worked perfectly...

Well done for putting your car spec at the top of your question, it makes life a lot easier for others to sort out problems.
I have just been out to look at my spare engine and have come to the same solution as you, a long bolt and some washers. Just make sure that the face of the dynamo tensioner bracket is level with the face of the top front mounting hole or you will put a strain on the dynamo and could break one of the flanges
