New Moggie Owner !!! :D

Post by stephenpolhill »

Hi there. Just to let anyone interested know that I have bought not only my first car, but my first Morris Minor.
A few small details:
- 67k miles
- '65 'C' Reg
- Almond Green
- Really good original unrestored condition
- 2 previous owners
- Not driven properly since 1980ish but started up every couple of weeks up until 4 years ago
- Local car
- Called Fiona :D

I absolutley love it and it's being brought up to a running condition (shouldn't take much) at a local garage.
I will keep posting with progress on it and please feel free to ask any questions or if you own a Moggie in the local area, please feel free to PM and drop by.

It's a pleasure not only to be a member of the club, but also to own my own car and look forward to visiting meets and shows.

Congratulations! She's a darling, and the ONLY colour to have a moggy (but then I am biased!). Hope there's no rude awakenings waiting for you when the garage start work on her!

Looks absolutely superb - i've always wanted a trailer like that.
The car looks good too! And I think the nicest colour for a Minor. Good luck with it!

Wow thanks guys. I wouldn't have said it is the best colour. But then again I have never thought about it and come to think of it, yes it is :D
I doubt there are any surprises with the car at the garage as it all looks fine, and needs a bit of cleaning/tinking to get it going. As I said shouldn't be much.
Alan, was that your first car AND moggy then? Like me?

Thanks again and I will keep you posted.
Steve

Just thought I would add some more piccys as well. Some of the engine bay and some in the garage.
And before you ask about the picture below, the floor hasn't sunk, the tyre IS repeat IS flat. All tyres stayed pumped for a couple of days all but that one.

Very nice! That looks like a very original car.

Do you know much of Fiona's history?

Well aparently the secretary of Perkins engines I think owned it since it's birth year 1965, up to around 1973 when a chap that worked at a Vauxhall dealer (Murketts) bought it for his wife to learn in. They have owned it ever since, leaving it in the garage since the 80's starting it up every few weeks until recently. It was last taxed in '83.

Feels great to get her out of the garage of a fair few years and into a garage ready for driving :D

Looks terrific - strangely clean and tidy garage !
I suggest all new rubber bits - tyres/hoses/brake seals/brake flexi hoses/fan belt - after all that time off the road they will be well rotted.

Well that's not the garage it was stored in don't worry :P
But yes it does look amazingly clean.
Thanks very much for that advice. I guess it is written in books, what to replace but that's it shortened (my preference for advice :P .
Thanks again
Steve

Thanks Nick. Doesn't matter if you're biased. I agree it is a good looking car and I thought that before I even got it :D

One question about them, are the seats leather or a similar material?
Thanks
Steve

Nice find Stephen, she should serve you well.... Leather seats would not have been fitted originally in 1965 they would have been vinyl although you can have them recovered in leather if you wish. You should get acquainted with a company called Newton Commercial for good quality trim componants....

Might be better idea to keep your laundry inside the car (unless it leaks like my traveller, in which case the engine bay is definitely drier!!) Love all the grime on the engine, looks very happoy like that. But-get rid of the Vauxhall battery for goodness sake!!
