wiring diagram for trafficator conversion

Post by dustyfog »

HI, i have a 61 2 door that had trafficators fitted, these were removed long before i brought the car,as was the indicator stalk, but it had some aftermarket orange flat fit units sort of wired, what i would like to know is there a wiring diagram avaliable to explain how to wire in new indicators. Also what type of indicator stalk should be fitted? the car has the 3 spoke steering wheel with the flappy springy thingy in the centre of the steering wheel. many thanks dusty
Image
It should have the standard later type with the little green light on the end fitted. I would let you have the one back that was fitted, but its on my Mum's car now!
(i owned the Minor in the picture earlier this year!)

only joking, its nice to here from a previous owner, since we have owned her we have christened her dolly , in that time all the major welding has been sorted, its just the mechanicals left to do,so it wont be that long before she is back on the road, then next summer it will be a full body respray

Excellent! :D I was offered her sight unseen for spares by someone who knew that we ran several minor in daily use. When she was delivered i looked at her and decided she was MUCH too good to break so offered her for restoration.
Sadly for Dolly my Mum's car's indicator arm failed while she was sat there so my Dad used Dolly's in the absence of a suitable spare.
Its good to know she found a loving home though! :D

Theres a wiring diagram in the clubs tech tips manual. Basically youu run a wire to each light and trafficator and you put a flaher unit on both sides. Ive only done this to the lowlight that has the older type switch fitted, all the wires could be screwed into the one terminal. Its probably easier on your type as all you should need is double terminals on the bullet connectors at the indicator switch and run one side to the trafficator and the other into the flasher unit then onto the front and back lamps. Hope this makes sense!!

many thanks for that mike. there are no trafficators fitted , no wiring for them either , but there is one 3 pin relay like that is fitted in the later models with 3 wires to it, and 1 wire each side thats a different colour to the standard green combination that was shoved into the indicator units on each side both back and front. the indicator stalk should be the later type green flashing end, does this fit into the loom as standard. ooh i hate wiring lol

The three wires are as follows:-
Green, terminal B to ignition fuse.
Light green, terminal P to flasher warning light.
Green / brown terminal L to indicator switch
From the indicator switch green / white goes to front and rear R/H indicators and green / red goes to front and rear L/H indicators
Any variation on that and you will have to trace the wiring through with a test light.
