Traveller Drain holes

Any advice on keeping the drain holes in the wood clear?

A stiff drinking straw, but the holes are fairly large and don't clog up easily.

Aye - just poke them clear regularly! If oiling or varnishing - it's important to make sure they stay clear.

Agreed with above use whatever is convienient and dont try to line the holes as this will cause problems. And occasionally plug them up and trickle some cuprinol 5* into them to help them stay rot free.

cuprinol5*?
I've always been told to use danish oil.
Though my cabinet maker father always insists on his own fowl smelling home concoction.

Cal, try using cotton buds soaked in cuprinol 5 for the holes. Leave overnight and then remove. Then use danish oil on all the wood. Keep repeating during the year. This keeps the holes clear and the wood preserved. Mine lives out all year round.

Yes - the Cuprinol 5 star is an excellent timber treatment - not a preservative. I use Teak oil for that!

Hi Cal as Danish Oil is very good at picking up bits of dirt its the last thing you want to be putting in the drain holes as its likely to block them far quicker.
