Electric Supercharger?

Yep apparently such things exist, just ebay them. You can buy one from as little as £20!. The cheepest i was claimed to give you about 2 psi boost. I was thinking of getting a twin carb setup for more power. But thease seem too good to be true.

Ive reaserched them but people seem to either hate them or like them. What are your oppinions on fitting such a thing?.

Here lies your answer, I think. No personal experience, but the tuners and rolling road centers we know are not impressed. Rotrex are the way to go. Might one day be a kit for the A series

Local lads up here did a scroll supercharger (Sprintex) for a while - but now the way to go seems to be with the ex MINI Cooper S chargers. Nothing wrong with an electric driven supercharger - you will need about 200 Kg of batteries - and a 2hp motor to drive it. And it's NOT going to cost just £20!!

Ive thought about a mini s super charger(Saw one on ebay for £70). Wondering how much a decent one would cost. Im also condering how much power Twin weber carbs would give me?.

hairdryers are useless though.

i don't know about the power difference with a twin weber, but my twin dellorto gave a more than noticeable difference in acceleration and top end. for example, with an SU driving at 60 on the motorway, if i put my foot down it was pretty flat, compare that to the dellorto...no comparison, it would pick up instantly and pull for a lot longer, qicker! actual power difference i do not know though!

Looking at the page on ebay again it would cost aroudn £50 becouse its sold separatly. Callyspoy, youve got me intrested in a Dellorto Carb, Could you estimate a HP diffrence?. Im not lookign for much of a diffrence.

Thaks for your help evreybody. Im either gonna fit Twin SU carbs(There i can get twin carbs on ebay for less than the electric supercharger). But im gonna wait a few weeeks and watch some auctions on some couper s super chargers

eaton chargers off new coopers tend to make about £150. You can do it yourself or buy a kit for a mini and make it fit like GAS did. Either way its a serious upgrade, you would need gearbox, axle, brakes, handling and engine all sorted to cope.

Dont think I am being negative about doing it because I am not, I think it is the best way to go, you end up with a really quick minor with all the minor characteristics intact. I love quick minors with an a series still under the bonnet. I just want you to realise it is a big undertaking.

Mine goes like the clappers and turns heads everywhere I go with, but I also hate it for the amount of time it has swallowed up.

I know i would have to replace aot of things like you mentiond but i have 4 years before the shoud be ready. Is there any mesurment for carburatos?. I mean how much of the mixture they can push into te cylinders a second?. The Twin Su's seem like a good idea

twin su's in my opinion are worthless. A set up hif will work better and be easier to set up.

if you remember from your school physics, energy cannot be created or lost, only converted.

Therfore the power for the fan comes from the alternator causing more drag.

Im sure im missing something though

Weber/Dellorto would be better than twin SU's. you have the same problems in terms of tuning them up, but the SU doesn't give you the punch that a Weber/Dellorto does.
I'm not good at estimating added HP i just know that it makes accelerating a right bit of fun! depends on what engine you have too of course! I currently have a semi tuned 1275 in mine, and when you get the revs to 2500ish with the dellorto you feel a noticeable pull. not so with the SU.
All you SU lovers, i understand the joy of simplicity with them, please don't think i dislike them, and it is smoother, but that extra push is great!
that said...if money was not so hard to come by at the moment, supercharger it would be!

Okay last question now. Will a mini carb manifold fit onto the minors engine. They both use they both use the a series engine and the mini uses twin carbs.

Mortis - don't waste your money on 'twin carbs' or electric schargers - there's a whole lot more to do to the engine before 'twin carbs' will show any worthwhile benefit. Do yourself a favour - and search ebay for Mr Vizards excellent book on 'Tuning BL's A series Engine' - and spend your money on that - and then spend 3 months reading and understanding what's inside!
