Minilite copy wheels

Post by natrid »

Sorry if this has been asked a million times (I am new to all this) , but I want to put some minilite copy wheels on my 1967 morris 1000.
I have been told that a 13 x 5 wheel with a 155 / 80 /13 tyre is OK -
Simple questions.
1. Is it Ok?
2. What are the implications?

Minors usually have 14" wheels (or size 14 as they are now called) so 13" wheels will make your speedo inaccurate. Acceleration will be quicker but you will loose top end speed. Also make sure that they are 4" PCD and not 100mm as they will not fit your wheel studs properly and could fall off the car. Parts suppliers such as Bullmotif sell the correct 14" wheels and tyres already mounted. With new chrome wheel nuts and locking nuts all in price is around £450 for a car set.

I assume you are considering 'Mini' 13" wheels - in which case you may find you need spacers to keep them from fouling on the suspension. They do have the correct 4" pcd - but as above - they are really too small diameter and will under-gear the car. If they are 5" wide rims, then 175/70 tyres would be suitable!
