inlet manifold
Does anybody know of an inlet manifold for a SU 1\"1/4 HS2 carb i could use so i can put a branch exhaust manifold on
Yes - you simply cut the inlet section off the standard manifold - but be sure to cut into the exhaust section to leave the inlet useable. Many after-market manifolds too - for the original 1.25 carb although most will also take the larger 1.5" carb. Seems unusual to fit a 'branch' exhaust and retain the small carb - what are you hoping to achieve ??

A change to a free flow exhaust manifold doesn't really create additional power till the revs rise above 4000rpm. A long time before that sort of revs the standard 1098 head and inlet system is strangling the engine so changes there are far more appropriate.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.
Well - on the Mini many companies claim 25% power increase by simply changing the carb needle, fitting a free-flow air filter - and fitting a 3 branch exhaust with straight through silencer. The so called 'stage 1 kit' - so there are gains to be had. But yes I agree - especially since the Minor has a pathetic wee carb as standard - that should be the first upgrade, with a good air filter, and then think about a head change followed by the exhaust changes. But - if you need an exhaust now - and plan the other changes in time, there is no harm upgrading as you plan. Just don't expect it to turn into a fire-breathing monster!

Me
Got an LCB, with a small (about 4") piece of pipe welded to the end. I then have a mini side exit rc 40, with an over axle bend and a piece of straight pipe I got from JLH. Great exhuast but its not easy to stop it hitting the floor!
Not a wonderful pic, but it might gove you the idea
