TYPE9 OR MT75 GEARBOX.

Post by JB »

I've offered a decent MT75 box off a 2l dohc sierra.
Can this be used in a 5speed conversion in the same way as a type9 or are there more/different problems?
The MT75 is a bit chunkier in places, so would clearance be an issue?
hope you can help
Thankyou
Jon

I'm afraid not Jon as the MT 75 has an integral bell housing rather than the removable one on the Typr 9.
It will fit nice and easily onto a Zetec though ! :D

TYPE9 OR MT75 GEARBOX

Post by JB »

Thankyou Jonathon. I'm looking at different options at the moment to build a useable everyday car, but keeping cost down to a reasonable level. I'm still thinking of using a maestro 1300, or maybe marina/ital parts, but would consider a 5speed g/box. looks like i'll keep on the lookout for a type9.
If anyone can say what parts i would need off the donors, to use a type9 with an A+series it would be helpful.
thankyou
Jon

Your best option here Jon might be to contact B'Ham MMC or C. S Autoclassics and ask for their list of parts to perform this conversion, then choose the items you can not make ie the bell housing and source the easier bits yourself.
Maestro motor is a wise choice in terms of having a proper crank seal standard unleaded head and electronic ignition, plus the long inlet manifold offering a slight increase in torque. The conversion /machining inc a new bespoke flywheel suitable for either BMC or Ford clutch is around £450 plus the dreaded. :D
