A lot of modern cars now use fly by wire throttles, no cable at all, just a potentiometer at the pedal end, and wires going to the ECU. Can be expensive to fix, and worse, you cannot rev the car from under the bonnet without having a laptop and the required software for the car handy. Progress!

I wouldn't be suprised if my wifes Zafira is one of them. It's a real pain to pull away smoothly partly because it's a 'small capacity' 16v with no low down torque and partly because the throttle movement isn't linear.A lot of modern cars now use fly by wire throttles
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

yes - that's getting common. low down torque is messed with to help reduce the last nano% of mpg.no low down torque and partly because the throttle movement isn't linear.
Non linear throttles really annoy any decent driver but they seem to impress the numpty petrol head because you get >50% engine torque by just touching the throttle, thereby convincing a brainless driver that the engine is powerful (but of course making the car much less pleasant to drive)
