Frustrating isn't it, try and imagine how we and other specialist feel doing this everyday, if we had a swear box we'd be rich, or should that be, broke.
Its very much 'luck of the draw' we have had a few pattern wings fit straight on and some Heritage ones a mile out. In my opinion its just the assembly quality rather than the pressings themselves that cause the major issues, we have had a pair of Hadrian wings over 15mm out of each other on the front end.
The problem for us is trying to convince the customer that 'yes it is a new wing' but it needs to be made to fit, which can take upto 3 hours labour before it meets the standard that we can accept. Times this amount to the majority of panels available and the labour bill grows into a 'demon'
We had thought of approaching the manufacturers to supply us wings in component form so that we can assemble them ourselves to fit the car in question perfectly.

well once my car is done, i will not have another done
parts are a problem and needs to be sorted some how
just hope my new old stock wings go straight on my car without to much agro

all my wings are original to the car but are holed in places, wondering weather to have them repaired or put new old stock on

I prefer to repair existing wings as this is such a problem. Minor panels tend to go in the same predictable places and IMHO it can be easier and cheaper to remove and repair the rust in a panel that fits rather than muck about with a new one that doesnt.

I had to cut and shut 15mm from the front of a wing 2 weeks ago. This wing had been on the front of a modified car, so I'm not sure if it had meen made wrong in the first place or bodged about by previous owner.
Either way, I wish I'd just piled loads of filler in to the rotten wing that was on there!! After shortening the wing it still had a very uneven door gap

Having repaired a wing yesterday (after extensive repairs to the bottom of the A-pillar!) I expect you'll find that the inner curved part will be rusted as well as the outer flat bit that's visible. Once you start poking a screwdriver in there you'll soon find out.stag36587 wrote:my front wings may need a small repair rear the rear vertical edges - presumably a common rot spot. I have to confess that I didn't bother with the fold-over lip, I'm relying on filler to hide the uneven weld line - it won't be perfect but I'm not looking to win any prizes.
