radio control

Post by jtd.75 »

can anyone tell answer me following questions, I have been given some radio control vehicles for my grand children but they did not come with the remote controls. some are 27mhz and some are 40mhz. Q1 is it possible to buy these remotes. Q2 would a 27mhz do other 27mhz or do they have seperate frequencies within the 27mhz range and the same for the 40mhz. Q3 or can one buy a multy frequency remote that would do the job and if so any idea as to were one might be able to obtain these.

There are various 'channels' in each frequency band - to avoid cross interference. Can only suggest ebay - or local model shop!

Are they toys that you buy complete with the radio control or model / kits that the radio system has to be added as a seperate item ?
If toys then I doubt you can do anything. Toys can generally be identified by being screwed together with maybe just the battery being assessable were as models / kits will have quick release detachable cover etc to allow you to get access to all the internal "guts" / components.
If a proper radio controled model / kit then the receiver will have a small plug in "crystal" and you simply use a matching frequency crystal on the transmitter.

Some manufacturers use different ways of sending the signal, so just because the frequency is right doesn't automatically mean any receiver will work with any transmitter.

Chances are if these are toys (and not models, the difference being price and fragility, plus snob value of course) then any cheapo Chinese transmitter of the right frequency will do as they're more than likely all made in the same factory. But of course, any old transmitter might not do too, so ideally you need to look out for one made by the same company for the same toys. Or spend a fortune on transmitters, recievers, speed controllers etc and have some seriously customised playthings :)
