Spares are all much of a muchness - except the Spridget engines had slightly smaller big end bearings and obviously a different crank to match! But 10V suggest a 1098 engine anyway! Are there removeable tappet chest covers on the manifold side of the engine ?
Well, there you go, I was told it was a marina engine when I got it but when I phoned to order bearing shells and answered all the engineers questions he told me it was an Ital. which you lot have just confirmed by the oil filter location. The engine number starts 12V and not 10v or (lov) which is on the V5 so thanks one and all.

It's just a general description for the engines based on their common usage. The A+(ribbed, 'Ital') engine was first seen in the last of the Marina cars, so really, you are both right .

Ahh -12 V not 10V then! I am interested to know what difference there is in the bearing shells. Both Marina and ital will have same size shells big-end and main - however keen to know if the later 'Ital' engine has the 'solid' - ie not grooved - main bearing shells in one half of the bearing - as was done with the Mini engine based on MG Turbo experience. Keen to see a pic of the shells when they arrive please.
Well, the main bearing shells do indeed have a grove in one half, When I spoke to the engineering company that will supply the new ones he asked if the tang was in the middle or to the side of the shell. When I said in the middle he told me that is the ital. engine. What a joy to find people who know what they are talking about..... like this forum
Ahh -right thanks - that's all I need to know. Same as the later 1275 Mini/Metro engine then. The shell half with no 'groove' (and centre locating tang) increases the load capacity of the bearing quite considerably. Thanks for the information!
