Yes the float clearance is set by bending the arm, but if it's flooding it's likely to be a very slight leak from the float needle valve. When working correctly, the float opens and closes the needle valve to maintain a fairly constant fuel level in the float chamber.

When the valve leaks, the float cannot close it any further.

But yes - try a wee bend first! It may be fine.

Hello HSL,

Hs type S.U. carburettors (I'm assuming a HS2 on a 1098) do not have adjustable floats like the earlier H types. The level can be lowered by thin fibre washers between the jet and the chamber lid however.
