Floor replacement

Post by stag36587 »

Hi All

A quick question on welding. I'm replacing the floor on one side of my minor. At the transmission tunnel, should this be butt welded along the entire length or is a small overlap acceptable so that the new floor sits on the edge of the tunnel and seam welded from both sides? I want it to be as strong as possible but also condensation free.

Thanks
Alastair

If your welding standard is good and you've cut the floor accurately, then a butt weld all the way along is perfectly strong enough. For added strength, dont grind all the seam down, just tidy it up, then after zinc priming, seam seal the entire weld seam (both sides), this will keep moisture out, then after the seam seal is dry, my preference is to paint with chassis black, then underbody wax treatment.

Post some photo's!
