Gold seal engine numbers?

Post by overider »

Hi does anybody know how to decipher the engine number on a gold seal engine or know where I can find the information. I have recently acquired a Morris minor engine and it is painted gold and has a strange engine number. So I am assuming it is a gold seal. I know some one could have just painted it gold. The engine number is 80163 RM93004 any idea what this means??? I have no idea if it’s a 1098 or any other size. The normal plate on the side with 1100 is not there. :-?

Sorry, no idea of the meaning of the numbers, you need someone with
a Gold Seal unit who knows for certain when it was supplied so that you can compare those numbers to get nearer the date. You could check the cylinder head casting number which would be 12G202 on a 1098 engine.
