Hi,
I could really use the horn push and contacts/spring etc below it :D
I've got a 3-spoke wheel & horn push but appear to be missing a spring and whatever it is that completes the circuit when the horn is pressed (see below, that's all I have)
Cheers,
Mick

Is that not the later horn push from the 1098 car?
My car with a 3 spoke wheel has the horn on the end of the indicator stalk. I don't think the steering wheel bosses are interchangeable because the steering columns are different.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

The 1098 one has a clip arrangement to hold them in - as far as I can tell this is the earlier one that is held in with a screw. The screw makes the earth bridge from the switch to the column (ground).

buellzebub,
Underneath the horn push looks correct!
What I think you are missing is the parts that fit on the steering column shaft. A wire runs through the hollow centre of the column poking out under the horn push and is held at the end in a clear plastic collar. The collar slides inside the column to keep it central and is spring loaded. The end of the wire is held to the collar with a small circlip.

At the other end of the wire, it pokes out the side of the column shaft. At this position there should be a plastic ring with a brass sleeve. The wire should contact the sleeve, (the sleeve should be isolated from the column). The power is applied to the brass ring with a contact arm from the indicator assembly.

So the power (live) goes from indicator switch to the brass ring, up the wire and when the switch is pressed it should earth via the horn switch to the column.

I hope that fill in any gaps you might have in 'what bit does what and where it should be!

I believe it's the correct one (see 1st photo). Mines currently factory fitted with a 2-spoke wheel and the horn push has an internal spring to hold it away from the contact. The older one (3-spoke) I want to fit is held in by a screw but what is baffling me is what keeps the horn push from constantly touching the column contact, there's no spring to hold the centre up. That is what I think I'm missing? Or is there something else I'm not grasping eg: is the earlier push not compatible with the later column contact?? :-?
Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, and to be honest I haven't checked the bosses yet! :o
Thanks,
Mick

it is a bit of an odd system, just did mine last weekend and although I cant explain how it works, it does.
the insert that ray mentioned is similar to the piece in the bottom right pic. I was gunna take pics/ measurements before i fitted mine but figured that they never get mentioned so its not worth it. Im out in the garage later so ill get the number of the guy I got mine off :)

Simba,

Sorry you couldnt access the pics, not sure why. Ill email them to you if you PM me your email address.
The odds are the owner of the car wont want anything or very little for it. I know of a couple of 4 doors but the owner will likely want £300+ for them as they are pretty much MOT'able.

all the best,
YG
