Engine numbers

Post by titch »

I have just bought myself a morris traveller.

My knowlege of these cars are limmitted, other than my mother had one of those lilac ones when i was a kid :)

Now my car has an engine number : KAR 11 4 02 and i can't for the life of me find any information as to what it originally came from.

I know its not the original to my car as i have found an old bill saying that the engine was changed in 1999.

is there any way I can find out as google searching has drawn a blank?

engine Number

That number is probably used by the company which reconned the engine as a means of proving that they did it! The '02' could be the end of the 3 year guarantee???

I've heard of KAR numbers before, but can't for the life of me remember where.

The KAR is the reconditioner and the 110402 is a date, in previous discussions we thought it might have been the date of reconditioning. But as Willie says above its likely to be a garuntee expiry.

Is the engine number stamped into the block? The original numbers are on a little plate held on with rivets - these normally get removed if the block is skimmed.....

Well there is a plate on the side of the engine which says 1100 so at least i know the cc of the unit. The original plate has been removed leaving me with little means of accurate identification then.

Well this might help. I have got bills on this car going back into this cars history. The unit was fitted on 19/04/02 which fits with the engine number. The work was carried out by Minor Medics in Milton keynes.

The work in 1999 was for a lead free head to be fitted.

I get the feeling that to have a 38 year old car take a lot of digging for information :S

Thanks for your help so far, its understanding where to look sometimes that is the hardest to workout.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Spot on, my engine is exactly the same colour as both the other member had and the lovely line up in the factory.

Thanks for the help :)
