In a recent accident the innards of the plastic chrome rear light were damaged. In particular the bulb holder and the "reflector" attached to it were broken out of the main body of the lamp. I have an old type Lucas unit but the chrome is badly pitted so I want to take out the lower bulb holder and the surround for the rear / brake light on the unit on the left of the photo and insert it into the Plastic type unit on the right which has a good external appearance and matched the other side.
The bulb holder appears to be peened over the funnel type reflector. Before I attack the unit has anyone had any success in de-peening it and if so how did you do it??
Thanks
Dave
Seems a whole lot more trouble than it's worth. Although you may dig the bulb holder out - I doubt you will get it satisfactorily installed in the other!
Ahh - being a Traveller with readily available rear lights I hadn't thought of that. Really - no new lights available ? Perhaps then better to use a stand-alone bulb holder from a modern car rear light unit - and find a way to fit that into your good light.
Edit - well, Bull Motif certainly have new rear lights - but OUCH - expensive!!
Even BM have no NS units in stock at moment , maybe next week or so.
They say plastic ones have not been available for 12 - 18 months.
I'll have a go at cannibalising an old unit to get the holder out!
